HGA Boys Dormitory (Helen E. Moses Memorial.) Dedicated September 12. 1908. Structure (100 years old this year) is unique, having been constructed of re-inforced poured concrete. the top floor housed Dr. H.I. Bloods hospital which operated from 1933 until about 1950 when Dr. Blood relocated to Arkansas. Very shortly afterwards he died in a freak accident when a mail bag thrown from a passing train struck him standing on the rail station platform. He and Mrs. Blood are buried in Woodside Cemetery, Middletown, Ohio. Photo from Kathy Lacy- Nippert. Thank you Kathy for all the Photos you sent to the Website

Dr. H.I. Blood operated the hospital on campus of HGA from 1933 to early 1950's. The hospital had twelve beds, operating room, x-ray, incubator for premature babies and two nurses. For many years the doctor's family had living quarters at the hospital on the second floor of the boys' dormitory. Later the family purchased and lived in the former Cecil Hotel property on Broadway Street, behind the Christian Church. In the 1940's Dr. Blood's Jeep allowed him to make house calls in the most isolated and remote locations where good roads did not yet exist. (Photo from HGA archives.)
The Clinic building was constructed in 1957, by HGA and the United Christian Missionary Society of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ, for local doctor use a few years after Dr. Blood's hospital on HGA campus was discontinued.
(James Edward Dennis a 1967 Graduate donated his labor and materials to the Stovall monument, AND the engraved words are his, after obtaining the Stovall family's approval of them.) Gravesite memorial tribute, in the Hazel Green Cemetery, to the ministry and stewardship of Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Stovall at the head of Hazel Green Academy1928-1966. The Stovalls came to the academy as newlyweds from Mississippi and guided the academy through the difficult years of the great depression, and during World War II when many boys interrupted their education at the academy for military service.

These pictures of the Girls Dorm known as the Pearre Hall, taken on June 24, 2008. When I took these pictures, we were told that it would be torn down in the next few weeks as soon as the paper work was all fixed, because the roof had collapsed and it wasn't feasible to have it repaired. We will miss this old building on the campus of H.G.A.
