Swango Brothers store was on Broadway at corner of Johnson street and was operated by R. Perry and H. Ernest Swango.  In 1921 the store was purchased by E.A. Johnson and J.B. Buchanan and operated as Hazel Green Cash Store for nearly 25 years.  Note the plank sidewalks. (Photo from collection of Flossie Lacy (Mrs. R.P.) Swango and contributed by Kathy Lacy Nippert, daughter of William Earl Lacy.)

Broadway street looking  towards the HGA campus in early 1900's.  Sarah K. Yancey dormitory shows at top of photo, situated where the Academy classroom and administration building stands today.  The brick store building on the right faced Main Street and was operated, at different times, by G.B. Swango, John M. Rose, R.L. Miller and Allie D. and David Morris.  The upper story of the building served as living quarters and was removed mid-century before the building housed the post office. The two-story wood building was owned by Frank Sample and later by Rodney Gillispie who had his barber shop in the building in the 1930's. (Photo from collection of Flossie Lacy (Mrs. R.P.) Swango and contributed by Kathy Lacy Nippert.)
